Year 5 Derbyshire 2016

Last week the children from Year 5 experienced their first school residential trip, spending three days and two nights in Derbyshire. They had the chance to explore several caves and caverns, use maps and a compass to navigate their way around the historically significant landmarks found in the Plague village of Eyam, build shelters, light fires, bake bread and pancakes over a fire and experience the beautiful landscape of the Peak District. Both the children and the adults had a fantastic time. Year 5 were an absolute pleasure to take away and they received several complimentary comments about their behaviour, manners and prior knowledge from members of the public and tour guides. The children participated enthusiastically in all activities, even lighting fires in the rain. As well as benefiting the children in terms of their academic development and deepen their understanding of the Geography and History curriculum, trips like this are a wonderful opportunity for children to build their confidence and independence away from home. Well done Year 5.
